- Talk about a feel good story. Recently, when 96-year-old Dr. Henry Heimlich used the maneuver he invented back in 1974 to save an 87-year-old woman from choking on a piece of meat, it garnered worldwide attention.
When I was still working as a lifeguard two years ago, the maneuver could no longer be referred to as the Heimlich Maneuver in publications because the family felt that it brought too much attention to their name. From then on, they were called J thrusts.
not to sound like a dick but i feel like this was overly publicized when it first happened and its old news now
Not to sound like an even bigger dick, but I honestly don't care. It was the first I had read about it. I imagine others haven't read it yet either. That said, clearly I have not been privy to the "hype." I thought it was a nice bit of news, the sort of thing you see in a film and think to yourself, "something like that would never happen in real life." Those moments are worth sharing. Real life is pretty rad. That's how I "feel."
